Last season’s hottest denim trend gets shortened for spring!

This past fall was all about the boyfriend jean – slouchy, comfortable, and perfectly cuffed denim that looked like you had stolen it directly from your latest love’s closet. It’s no surprise, then, that the spring runways were filled with the shortened version of this must-have fit. Slouchy boyfriend shorts showed up in New York, London and Milan paired with youthful pieces and pops of color.

Boyfriend shorts are all about comfort and ease, not shape, so be aware of how this trend looks on your body. If you’re a bit curvier, try on a straight-fit pair of shorts and buy them a size up – this way, you get the look without adding a ton of bulk. For the more body-concious, a slim black tank and leggings added basic layers and created the perfect lazy weekend look, toughened up with heavy chains for a very I-don’t-care statement. Stay away from pleated shorts if you need to draw attention away from your hips, however – but if you’re more on the athletic side, the folds will add a bit of volume right where you need it.

Throw on some neon, a few summery accessories and a killer pair of heels, and you’ll look like you walked right off the runway!

Spring Trend Ripped Denim

Though the ripped denim trend hasn’t been a huge part of the fashion scene since the grunge era of the early 90s, ripped denim jeans are fast becoming one of the season’s hottest denim trends. From jeans to skirts and shorts, A-listers and fashionistas alike are embracing this ripped denim movement. Holes, rips, and tears are becoming a part of an ultra-stylish fashion statement, but if you’re not careful to avoid some of the ripped denim extremes, your denim style can go from fashion-forward to fashion faux-pas. If you’re aiming to pull off this denim trend, stick to denim jeans that are subtly ripped around the legs, thighs, and ankles -- you want your ripped denim jeans to be tastefully destroyed, if you’re looking to wear them beyond your local dive bar. Pair your ripped denim jeans with feminine print tops, beaded jackets, or a ruffled blouse for a funky look that’s both feminine and edgy. This ripped denim trend is all about exuding confidence and style. So go ahead! Slip into a pair of fashionably ripped denim jeans and show off your liberated sense of style

Spring Denim Trends

Jeans are a must have fashion staple in every woman's wardrobe. There are so many different jean trends for Spring 2009, it can be confusing to decide which pair to wear. However, five jean styles have prevailed. Here they are...the five hottest jeans to wear for the Spring 2009 season.

1) Destroyed

Once worn only by grunge rock band front men (can you say Kurt Cobain), destroyed jeans are hot, hot, hot for Spring 2009! Actress Kate Beckinsale was recently spotted wearing a pair of destroyed jeans. Pair your destroyed denim jeans with an airy, ruffled top (another popular Spring 2009 runway trend) to give the ripped jeans a romantic feel.

2) Boyfriend

If your boyfriend wears jeans close in size to yours, by all means, borrow his and save a few bucks. But if not, don't worry, there are plenty of boyfriend-style jeans to go around for Spring 2009. Pair your boyfriend jeans with two fitted, layered tanks in one of Spring 2009's huge color trend, pastel.

3) Slouchy Skinny
"Slouchy" and "skinny" don't seem to go together, but fashionistas all over are certainly rocking the slouchy skinny look. The Spring 2009 slouchy/skinny branded denim are all fitted with emphasis on the slouch where the rise of the jean is (from the crotch to the waistband).

4) Flared
Flared jeans were replaced by the uber-trendy skinny jean several season ago, but they are making a comeback! In Burberry's 2009 Spring and Summer Ad Campaign, most of the models were modeling flared denim looks.

5) Colored
Colored denim is also a look that has been around for a couple seasons, but it is still a big trend for Spring 2009. Purr Premium designer denim comes in every color of the rainbow, and the line has been spotted on famous gams like Hilary Duff, Fergie, and Ashley Tisdale.

Victoria Beckham Denim

Say so long to dVb and hello to Victoria Beckham Denim. The posh mama, who practically lives in her skinny jeans, is giving her denim a high-end makeover come Spring '10. This time around, the line will focus on funky cigarette styles in classic hues and pastel colors, as well as a vintage range. Denim jackets, boyfriend jeans, cutoff shorts, and leggings are also part of the new mix. With such refinement also comes a higher price tag — the collection starts at $230. Will you participate?

Jessica Simpson expanding fashion brand to include denim: 'A girl's booty needs to look good'

She was ridiculed for wearing "mom jeans" during a performance last year, but that won't stop Jessica Simpson from launching her own denim line.

The 29-year-old singer will expand her fashion line to include jeans in July, WWD reports.

"Because I live in denim, the fit was the most important," Simpson said. "A girl's booty needs to look good. I was inspired to create a great denim line that complements the entire Jessica Simpson lifestyle brand – a jean that becomes a girl's best friend, that everyday go-to pair."

The line, which will sell in about 1,000 department stores and on jessicasimpsoncollection.com, will boast basic boot-cut jeans, as well flares, and feature straight and skinny-leg styles.

To pair with the pants, Simpson has also designed a collection of lace-trimmed blouses, cardigans, boyfriend blazers and faux fur vests.

New Trend: Patches

A new trend that seems to be showing up in most of the brands are patches. Usually put on to cover a hole or to give a carefree hippy vibe that tears won’t give alone. But now they are put on to add to the distressing, they are even under the tears. Brands such as Hudson, True Religion, and more are on this trend. This is also not just for the ladies. Hysteric Glamour, Ksubi, and Diesel have also come out with styles for men. Check out some of the styles below.

Editors note – Diesel have been patching the holes in their jeans ever since 71J came on the scene which was years ago. I wonder if all the brands are now following in their trend to make their jeans more sturdier as well as fashionable?

How To Wear Boyfriend Jeans

Slouchy, rolled to the ankle boyfriend jeans have taken the denim fashion world by storm and are a definite must have for spring. They are instantly trendy but very comfy and perfect to wear as the weather heats up. Boyfriend jeans are meant to be worn loose and low on the hip so they look great on curvy and straight figures.
When searching for the perfect pair be prepared to try on lots of styles to get the one that works for you. It seems like every major denim line has a boyfriend style so start with brands you already wear and also give Current/Elliott a try, they are the company that essentially started the trend.
Boyfriend jeans are meant to be worn rolled to just above the ankle, so look for jeans that have a straight leg that is easy to roll. They are also meant to be worn loose and baggy but you don’t have to get so carried away, I bought my Current/Elliott pair just a tad loose. Take at least 3 different sizes of each brand and style into the dressing room with you so you can see find the most flattering pair.
Once you find the perfect pair, you will want it top them off with a fitted tee or tank or go super feminine with sheer chiffon blouse with or without ruffles. They also look cute with fitted cardigans and blazers. To balance the baggy masculine look add bold girly jewelry like layers of pearl necklaces or bangles and wear them with sweet ballet flats, dainty flip flops, bejeweled gladiators or super high chunky heels.
